Seoul University: founded in 1934, this university has 28 departments, 30,000-plus students and 2,000-plus teachers. It is the leading country in such majors as electromechanics, intelligence and communication, industrial automation, etc. and therefore regarded as a super first-rate university in Korea. Since it is supported by the government, its tuition and accommodation charges are cheaper than private universities. With a strong teaching force, Seoul University is a favourite for students.

Korea University: as one of the biggest private comprehensive universities in Korea, it has a sound environment and strong teaching force. No other university is comparable with it in terms of its high-quality teaching method. Located in Seoul that is the biggest city in Korea, it is a second best national university next to Seoul University. It now has 33,000-plus students and 1,000-plus teachers. It is leading the country in such majors as mechanics, industrial automation and intelligence and communication.

YonSei University: It was the first institution of higher education in Korea to introduce English as a mandatory course in its undergraduate curriculum, to implement foreign exchange student programs, to establish a Graduate School of International Studies (GSIS), and to develop an International Division devoted exclusively to foreign undergraduate and graduate students. As important as these benchmarks are, Yonsei University remains even more committed to upgrading, modernizing, and expanding its international programs and facilities in the 21st century. The university is a 116-year-old private institution associated with the Presbyterian and Methodist churches. Two-thirds of Yonsei's faculty holds doctorates from U.S. institutions. The student body is taken from the top two percent of high school graduates in Korea. The foreign student population is about 1,500. Total enrollment: approx. 45,000.

Sungkyunkwan University: with a history of 600-plus years, its predecessor is Sungkyunkwan School, the first national-funded organ of higher education established in 1398. Ever since 1996 when Samsung became its sponsor, the university has developed 21 departments with 930-plus teachers and 30,000-plus students. It is currently marching towards the target of becoming a world-renowned university in 2010.

Hanyang University: Since its foundation in 1939, Hanyang University has recorded various achievements in virtually all aspects of its teaching and research activities, and is striving for competitive status with internationally top ranked universities. It is committed to academic and professional excellence, with graduates playing active roles in areas of expertise, both domestically and internationally. It developed an ambitious plan in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the University, which is to gain recognition as one of the top 100 universities in the world by the year 2039.

Hong-Ik University: is a private university that was founded in 1946 and relocated to Seoul in 1953. The school has kept increasing and is now 17,000-plus students and 500-plus teachers in the university. The Chinese meaning of Hong-Ik University is ˇ°benefit the human beingˇ±. It is reported that it is planning to add more majors with the aim to build itself into an international university by 2005. It will increase its existing occupational colleges from three to seven. Its headquarters in Seoul are located in downtown Seoul with convenient transportation located nearby.

Paichai University: Founded in 1885 and located in Daejeon City.? Paichai University is a Christianity-based university and has 8,000-plus students and 300-plus teachers. It is located in the proximity of Taedok Research Zone that is the cradle of science and technology. The university enjoys sound teaching facilities and is expected to be on the Top 10 universities in Korea within the next 10 years. Its key majors include sightseeing, computer, electronics and intelligence and communication.
