As an international language, English is a mother tongue of about 375 million people and the second language of 750 million people. A proficient command of spoken English will be a great advantage for you whatever profession you are in. The best place to learn English is of course Britain where English originated from. Colleges offering English courses fall into four categories: private language schools, private schools and colleges, further education institutes and higher schools.
The periods of different English courses vary enormously. You may either choose to take up a one-to-one course in a school or attend a training class that may last for one week, one month, three months or one year. Each week has 15 to 30 learning hours.
The tuition also varies substantially depending on the type of school and its courses. The standard tuition is 100 pounds per week for a large classes, more than 300 pounds per week for consolidated English courses and 100 to 200 pounds per week for academic English courses.
Generally, no special requirement is necessary to apply for English courses. However, if you apply for both English and other courses, then the latter courses may impose some admission requirements. Other professional courses may also have specific English requirements.
